Cancer is a bitch. It’s a terrible, crippling disease that ruins people’s lives and seperates families in the cruelest possible way.
An old friend recently lost her mum to cancer. It’s never an easy time but ever more poignant at Christmas and New Year. The way she has dealt with her loss has really been a testament to the way her mum raised her. She’s been strong and supportive to her family and compassionate and open with her feelings. A true inspiration.
Dexter’s granny is ill. She has been for a while. She is the strongest person I know and has battled it for as long as I can remember. It’s sad but I can’t recall her ever not having it.
Breaking the news to them last Christmas that they were going to be grandparents was one of the best moments of our lives. Seeing the joy and happiness in their faces, and the big soppy tears made all the waiting worthwhile. We’d been desperate for such a long time to make this moment happen. And the first moment that Granny held Dex, well my heart just melted.
When he was first born you could see her spirit was lifted and she had things to focus on and look forward too. Not to mention the 1000’s of photos to take of him! It’s now so important to me, us, that Dexter spends as much time as possible with his Granny.
I’m forever grateful that Master K-D has brought some joy to her life.
Family is precious, time is precious.
