On 14th March 2012 my friends Carly and Keith’s lives changed.
Their son Samuel Logan Raw was born still.
I’ve witnessed my friend Carly, and also Keith, go through a whole spectrum of emotions. It breaks my heart everyday that she’s not experiencing what I have with Dexter. She is a beautiful, maternal woman with the biggest, soppiest heart and does not, in any way, deserve the pain she is experiencing.
It takes a very special person to deal with what has happened and I can see that Carly has grown in strength and confidence, but she’d be the last person to admit this. Read about her journey here: http://facesofloss.com/2012/06/5633.html
Since 14th March I have wanted to help in any way I could. They set up a Just Giving page (https://www.justgiving.com/samuel-raw) to raise money to help other families trying to deal with this terrible loss and I think they were both a little overwhelmed by how much has been raised. I’ve been racking my brains on how I could help to raise some money and whilst I sat at home staring at the pile of clothes waiting to be stuck on eBay it dawned on me that this was my answer.
eBay now gives you the option to donate money from your sold item direct to a chosen charity. I think this is a brilliant opportunity to declutter and also donate to charity. I am trying to encourage you all, as my friends, as friends of Carly’s and Keith’s, as parents, as human beings with a bit of compassion to get on board and Sell it for Sam…..
How to Sell it for Sam
1. Sign up to eBay (www.ebay.co.uk) if you aren’t already a member. Erm…..where have you been?
2. Once you are ready to sell your item go to the Sell hub and select “Advanced Sell”. Find tips on how to sell an item here: http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/sell/sell-getstarted.html
3. As you’re filling out the details, look out for the charity box just below where you set your price. Select SANDS as your charity to support and the percentage (ideally 100%) of your final selling price that you’d like to donate.
4. Three weeks after your item sells, MissionFish (eBay’s charity partner) will automatically collect the donation from you. You can also manage your donations through the ‘My Donations’ section of My eBay, under the My Account tab. Any fee credits will appear on your next invoice.
My aim is to get all of my friends, family, Facebook friends, twitter followers, blog readers and lovely people who I am yet to meet to each sell something for Sam. If you have anything that you could do without, anything you know could raise even a small amount of money then list it and donate 100% of the final selling price to SANDS. If the item is large then just arrange local collection. If the item is old then say its well-loved. If the item doesn’t sell then list another. How amazing would it be if everyone who reads this listed an item, donated their money and helped out more families like Carly and Keith?
Please keep me updated on how you are all getting on by email: firstname.lastname@example.org or twitter @LindseyDay or Facebook. Please send me a link of your listings and I will publish them on here.
Happy eBaying lovely people
